A few (maybe) useful suggestions
Published on December 30, 2004 By J Q In ObjectDock
A few ideas for making the tabbed docks more useful (for me anyway):

1) Allow placement of icons in dock, currently they just flow:

Instead of:

xxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxooooo
oooooooooo

Allow:

xxxooooxxx
ooooxxoooo
xooxoooxxo

where 'o' represents an empty space and 'x' represents a shortcut/whatever.

2) Allow the hiding of the tabs. This allows a drawer that's hidden off-screen and opens when a hotspot is hit.

3) Hotspots (edges) also apply to normal docks like OS X.

4) Allow the hotspots to be click activated instead of just hover activated.

Thanks for making my switch to Windows bearable!

Cheers,
Jason.

I couldn't use half of the features shown...

I would LOVE (and think would be easier to implement...) is:

1) Drag-and-drop launching... If I drag a document onto an icon instead of next to it, I thought the program should try to load the document you dropped onto it. Shift-click or something to deactivate.

2) Longer or selectable timed (5-15 sec.) icon animations.

3) Individual locked-dock settings to lock one dock, not the others. (OD+)

4) The weird bug, err.. feature where screenshots in the dock disappear when switching from app to app.

Just these four things would make OD 1.6e16 times better for me...

But I'm glad that some stabilty was put in first!

my two cents (i've written them in separate thread some time ago)

1.
it would be nice to set image not just by using programs name or windows class, but also by icon used by program. this way it will be possible to "skin" various program states. if program changes icon, object dock will change it too. for example you can set another image for connected and another one for disconnected state of trillian/icq/msn, new message notification etc.
i hope it's clear

2.
setting of usable windows desktop workarea. like when u use standart windows taskbar with on top settings... i think there is something like that in desktopx. but why to use desktopx just for that

I would like to beable to change the fonts on the dock and not sure if its just me or not but if I set ,my screen higher then 1280by 1024 lets say 1600 the dock on the right wont go to the edge for some reason. Thinks of some more styff later

Very good suggestions

I've been reading all the suggestions posted and I don't know if this has been mentioned before but what I really miss in ObjectDock is the ability to drag the dock and place it whenever I want... Namely, I'd like to place it where my quick launch once was... And I can't...

Thanks!

Just figured I'd bump this up, to see if anyone else supports some of these ideas.

Out-friggin'-standing!!

My favorite enhancement would be the ability to save docks individually instead of as a "theme" so that I could add them individually to the theme I'm using. This is perhaps similar to post #7 above - if I could click on a dock entry to load another dock that would be just great. I wouldn't mind even if I had to go into the configuration settings to add one. In my case it's an issue of wanting separate project-specific tabbed docks with individual placements and sizes while keeping a couple of standard docks.

I'd also put in a vote for resolving/improving the multimedia issue mentioned in post #3, item (3). It's not just the ATI multimedia software, there's an effect on a lot of dvd or video multimedia s/w which has been discussed in previous threads. That really is a hindrance. (Unless that was dealt with in the last release? Now that I think about it I didn't try to set one up to try to cause a problem.)

Thanks for asking!

I'd like to add my support for the following ideas (and my thanks to those that took the time to post their ideas here):

1. Individually saving tabbed docks - LOVE this idea!
2. Ability to run system tray AND task bar on the same dock - I'd also like to see better support in the system tray. I've given up using it as I have experienced icons for programmes that I KNOW are running not appearing at all and functionality issues when launching programmes via their systray icon (WinTasks Pro 5 for example).

All the feature requests posted above look great to me, I've just highlighted two that are my own "must-haves"...

Thanks again to all who took the time to put into words what I've been thinking over the past year!
